New page

If you want a fantastic may to manage your local media content and access that content from anywhere, look no farther than plex media server.
'''$''' sudo emerge -av plex-media-server
Once plex is installed, start the service and add it to startup:
'''$''' sudo /etc/init.d/plex-media-server start
'''$''' sudo rc-update add plex-media-server default
Point your browser to http://localhost:32400/web/index.html and you should now be able to access your new media server. Register your account and start building your media libraries and customizing them with a Netflix-esque look and feel. You can login to the app at http://www.plex.tv via the "Launch" button on the top right to access your media server from anywhere (note you may need to poke a few holes in your firewall).

=== Restoring Plex Media Server ===

On Gentoo, Plex stores its metadata in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library. This folder can be backed up if you wish to save your data, or simply lift-and-shifted into a new install to restore your previous settings.
