Similar to Gentoo, ArchLinux is a customizable linux distro. I began to investigate using Arch because despite Gentoo's customizability, it has a number of shortcomings, such as common cyclical dependencies making updates difficult. At the time of this writing, it also lacked any formal documentation on setting up software RAID1 with modern boot technology.

I tried to do a RAID Install with a single drive, but this did not succeed (the forum example was too old). Jury is still out on that.
